Markaz At-Tawheed Wa As-Sunnah

Calling to Tawheed. Seeking Knowledge. Building Duʿaat.

Markaz At-Tawheed Wa As-Sunnah is an Islamic educational institution based in the Durban/Verulam area of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Markaz opened its doors in 2015 with a clear purpose and vision: to educate and nurture students upon the Qur’aan and Sunnah and to produce duʿaat—callers to Tawheed—who can convey the message of Islam with knowledge, wisdom and good character.

Since its establishment, the Markaz has remained committed to developing students through a structured programme of Islamic studies. Our aim is not merely to impart information, but to cultivate students who understand their religion, practise what they learn, and are prepared to serve their communities through knowledge and daʿwah.

Our educational programme

The current programme places strong emphasis on the foundations of Islamic knowledge. Students are exposed to a range of disciplines:

  • Tawheed and ManhajThe foundation: worship of Allah alone, and the way of the Salaf.
  • ʿAqeedahWhat a Muslim believes, and the evidence it rests on.
  • Qur’aanRecitation, memorisation, and the meaning behind the words.
  • HadeethThe words and practice of the Prophet ﷺ.
  • TafseerThe Qur’aan explained, aayah by aayah.
  • FiqhThe rulings, and the evidences they are drawn from.
  • Akhlaaq and Islamic characterManners, discipline, and the conduct that knowledge should produce.

Through these subjects, students are encouraged to develop a sound foundation in Islamic knowledge while understanding the importance of implementing that knowledge in their daily lives.

Our vision

At the heart of the Markaz is the vision of producing duʿaat to Tawheed—individuals equipped with knowledge and character who can convey the call to worship Allah alone and encourage others towards the Qur’aan and authentic Sunnah.

We believe that seeking knowledge carries with it a responsibility. The student of knowledge should strive to benefit himself, his family and his wider community. For this reason, the Markaz seeks to combine Islamic education with practical development, good manners, discipline and a sense of responsibility towards the Ummah.

Our journey

  • 2015Opened its doors
  • 16Graduates of the programme
  • 9Now active in daʿwah in Southern Africa
  • ±50Students today

These graduates represent an important part of the Markaz’s journey and are a reflection of its central objective: to prepare students to carry the message of Tawheed beyond the classroom and into their communities.

Looking ahead

As Markaz At-Tawheed Wa As-Sunnah continues to grow, our focus remains firmly rooted in the purpose for which the institution was established: seeking knowledge, nurturing students and producing duʿaat who call to Tawheed.

We look forward to building upon the foundations laid since 2015, expanding our educational efforts and continuing to serve the Muslim community through knowledge, daʿwah and the cultivation of upright Islamic character.

May Allah accept the efforts of all those who have contributed to the establishment and development of the Markaz, bless its students and teachers, and allow it to continue benefiting the Ummah for generations to come. Aameen.
